Both names coexisted for nearly a century and a half, while the islands remained in the hands of the English Crown, but the English coveted the islands, which wanted to become a strategic location to protect its colonies in North America. Finally, in the first half of the seventeenth century, the subjects of Charles I took over the Islands Bajamar and adapted the name of the islands to their language, calling Bahamas Islands. Later, our ancestors speaking, perhaps not knowing the origin of the name, renamed Bahamas Islands.
