Roadmap is and what is not a grammar

An automatic grammar checker is an assistant to the editor. Its function is to highlight potential inaccuracies and, eventually, lack of style. However, almost never a substitute for the discretion of the editor and, of course, supply all lack spelling and grammar.

Grammar arrives where the spelling does not come. The spell checker searches for each word in its dictionary, which is not the mark as erroneous. Grammar looking for combinations of words and when you find one that meets certain rules, he says. For example, if we write * 'that you tell your ' Spell detect grammatical rule "" your "at the end of the sentence" and would suggest swapping " your" by " you."

The buildings will highlight those that are questionable or wrong directory, so that the editor may well accept the suggestion to change or modify the text differently. There is also the option to ignore the recommendation and even ignore the following application of the same rule (it would be useful, for example, abounded in the text by two spaces separate words intentionally). The decision - and, ultimately, the responsibility for what is written - is always the writer.
Grammar
can point :

  • Some typographical errors. If we write * 'not yet to come ", the spelling all the words accepted as correct, since they are in the dictionary. However, the grammar checker will suggest swapping " to " with " has" , because as written is no sense in English.
  • Some morphosyntactic errors. If we write * 'the eagle', the grammar checker will suggest swapping "the" with "." If leave us a "s" in a plural, the grammar checker could detect.
  • Some syntax errors. If you write "I think that means the spell will offer to remove the preposition" of ".
  • Some errors in punctuation. We advise, for example, if we failed to close quotes or parentheses.
  • Some faults of style. very trite expressions, or in bad taste, can also be detected. At times, indicating the spell can be a false positive, since the construction is correct in English. However it is often useful also false positive, because if a building misleads the grammar, is that construction is somewhat complex and therefore will eventually be confusing to a reader. So if you want to produce a clear text, the grammar checker can help in this regard.

Grammar can not :

  • disambiguate sentences with different meanings. For example "I took only a coffee 'and' I took just a coffee" have different meaning, but for an automatic correction is virtually impossible to guess whether the writer meant that he took a coffee without company or if you just took was a coffee.
  • Report all possibilities of twisting of language. is precisely the versatility of English which means that it can say many things differently. However, if we start to mix words without meaning, probably beyond the grammar checker, and it needs a certain structure to work well. A special case is when the spell checker has detected an error. That the grammar checker can detect other than that. In this case, before attending grammar announcements, you should attend to the spelling checker.
Good grammar is one that strikes a balance between what we found and what passes. The important thing is to detect most of the blunders people make when typing normally.
